Planalto is now one of the reference white wines of the Douro region, which is a result of the in-depth studies over the years, the careful selection of the grape varieties used to make the wine and the use of the best winemaking technology in its production.
Casa Ferreirinha Planalto White Reserva 2015 has a bright hue with citrus nuances and aroma of good intensity and complexity. The floral aromas stand out, as well as citrus, tropical fruits, white pulp fruits and asparagus vegetable aromas. It has lively acidity and is well integrated on the palate, with good volume and again with aromas of tropical fruit and floral notes in evidence. Its finish is elegant and harmonious.
The 2015 wine-growing year was dry during most of the growing cycle, in particular the month of March which registered around 50% less rain than the average for the region. The average temperature between April and May was above normal. Three heatwaves were recorded in June and July, with high temperatures above 40ºC, impacting on the vines and grape maturation. These factors jointly led to the growth cycle being brought forward 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the area. The precipitation values in September were higher than the average for the region, which helped to balance the final maturation especially for the later varieties. The harvest began, therefore, in the first week of September. The grapes presented at the end of maturation very good and balanced levels of sugar, acidity and phenolic compounds.
On arrival at the winery of Casa Ferreirinha in Vila Real, the grapes harvested by hand in the highlands and plateaus of the Douro region - chosen for the balance between good maturity and excellent freshness - were destemmed and softly crushed. This was followed by the cold decantation of the musts which, after reaching the required purity, were fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC, for about 20 days.
The wines selected for Casa Ferreirinha Planalto White Reserva 2015 were kept separately according to variety and/or vine, at low temperatures. After several tests and following a strict selection, the final blend was prepared and, once clarified and stabilised, was bottled.
Casa Ferreirinha Planalto White Reserva 2015 can be enjoyed in full 6 months after bottling. It also remains in top condition for 2 to 3 years. Store in a horizontal position at temperatures of 10ºC-15ºC.
It should be served chilled between 9ºC-11ºC.
Casa Ferreirinha Planalto White Reserva 2015 is the ideal wine to accompany salads, light dishes, fish and seafood, or even to serve as an aperitif.
