Citrus and mineral aroma, notes of grapefruit and wild flowers complexed by the strong minerality of the granite soil with a very discreet smoky hint. Very fresh and persistent flavors, with vivid citrus notes resulting in a very elegant wine.

Quinta da Pedra Escrita Estate is located at Freixo de Numão Douro Superior, with an average altitude of 575 meters. The windy and dry soils of the Estate are predomiantly of granite, sandy and very poor in nutrients. Here we grew the first vineyards of VDS, because we beleive that the granite soils give us wines with higly complex aromas and great longevity, like in the old times.
This year we had a normal physiological cycle, until the grapes started to gain color, since late July there have been extreme diurnal temperatures that delayed the maturations in general terms for about three weeks. Whites with balanced acidity due to the delay of maturation.
Handly picked grapes to small perforated boxes of 15 Kg, cold fermentation technology on reductive environment, with controlled temperature at about 16 ºC, very gentle crushing and pressing in an inert atmosphere to preserve all the aromatic potential of grapes. We made a great effort that all the prefermentation operations are carried out within the greater accuracy because it's responsible for the intrinsic quality of future wine. This wine fermented in used French oak and remains there after a short racking on fine lees with regular stirring "battonage" until the making of the final blend in the end of Spring time.
Fermentation and aging in French oak with "battonage" until the filling in April, ageing at least 3 months in the bottle.
Appellation: Regional Duriense
Grapes: Alvarinho, Rabigato, Verdelho e uma pequena percentagem de Viognier.
