Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga is a Douro red with an intense, elegant and modern profile which reflects the versatility and passion devoted to these wines. Callabriga is one of the most innovative wines made by Casa Ferreirinha, renowned for its tradition of quality and its role as one of the Douro.s standard-bearers in the global market place.
Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga has a very deep ruby hue. It has an intense bouquet with a prevalence of ripe red fruits as well as a presence of warming notes of cedar and tobacco, spicy notes and a discreet hint of chocolate. Top quality oak is very well integrated. In the mouth it shows a fine structure, acidity and volume, with a strong presence of red fruits and lively, fine-quality, tannins. It has a long and elegant finish.
The grapes were hand-picked and vinified at Quinta da Leda.s modern winery. After full de-stemming and soft crushing they were taken to stainless steel deposits and/or robot-operated presses where fermentation took place with prolonged maceration and pumping-over under controlled temperature. A long post-fermentation maceration ensued, with the aim of obtaining the finest aromatic extraction, which enabled the transfer of the grape skin quality components into the wine.
Although it is ready to be served in its early years, this wine benefits from ageing in the bottle of between 3 and 5 years and it reaches its peak at about 8 years. It is estimated, nonetheless, that it will retain its optimum quality for about 10 years. The bottle should be kept horizontally in a dry and cool place, sheltered from light.
So as to reach its full potential it should be open 1-2 hours prior to serving and it may require decanting if it has been aged in the bottle. Serve between 17ºC-20ºC.
Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga Red is an intense, elegant and generous wine that ideally accompanies red meat, game and intense cheeses. It is delicious with turkey with thyme and lemon.
