THE WINE
Quinta dos Carvalhais Colheita is a Dão red wine of exceptional quality, at the pinnacle of elegance and richness. Quinta dos Carvalhais, thanks to decades of winemaking knowledge, marries experience with innovation to create supremely elegant wines with intensely delicate flavours that encapsulate the region’s unique personality.

TASTING NOTES
Quinta dos Carvalhais Colheita 2009 has a ruby hue of fine intensity. With a complex bouquet, the delicate presence of floral and black tea notes, both characteristic of Touriga Nacional, combine with notes of fresh red fruits,
especially raspberry and gooseberry, wild shrubs (broom) and menthol. It has subtle, well-integrated oak notes, contributing to the richness of this wine’s palate. It is a well-structured wine, with tight tannins, a lively acidity and
a balanced finish.

VARIETIES: 83% Touriga Nacional, 13% Tinta Roriz, 4% Alfrocheiro

WINEMAKING
On arrival at the winery at Quinta dos Carvalhais the grapes, separated by variety, were de-stemmed and softly crushed, and transferred by gravity into stainless steel automatic temperature controlled fermenting tanks. Here, the must fermented for about 8 days, with pumping-over for soft extraction of the skin aromas and compounds.

MATURATION
Following alcoholic fermentation the wine is transferred into stainless steel tanks where malolactic fermentation took place. Maturation in French and American oak wood hogsheads took place for a period of 12 months. The final blend was prepared after this period of maturation, followed by fining, filtering and
bottling.

STORE
As with all good Dão reds, this wine has excellent ageing potential and it is in prime drinking condition for up to 10 years after the vintage. The bottle should be kept horizontally in a dry and cool place.

SERVE
It only requires decanting if aged in the bottle and should be served at between 17ºC-20ºC. Once open, the bottle should be drunk on the same day, although it will remain in good condition if well corked, ideally with some vacuum.

ENJOY
Quinta dos Carvalhais Colheita 2009’s elegance and complexity make it excellent with meat, game and various types of buttery cheese. Try it with asparagus, lasagna and brie cheese.
