The microclimate is variable from one area to another which confers richness and
complexity to the wine.
Altitude: Variable from 220 to 450 meters above sea level
Growing system: Cordon trained.
Vine density: 3000/5000 vines per hectare
Picking for "Il DUCALE 2003" started mid September for the Merlot and continued in October with the Sangiovese and the other red varieties. The fermentation took place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 26/28°C for approximately 8 days. The maceration on the skins continued for another 10 days. After completing the malo-lactic fermentation IL DUCALE was aged in 40/80 hl. oak casks for approximately 12 months and then for another 4 months in tanks. The wine has undergone a minimum of 3 months bottle refinement.
Alcohol content: 13%
Colour: Ruby red
Aroma: The bouquet is elegant, fragrant, and inviting. The ample fruity notes, typical for Sangiovese intertwine with a gentle spicy touch deriving from the Merlot. The ageing in oak ads complexity and length to the aroma with delicious hints of walnuts, tobacco and cassis.
Tasting profile: The taste is refreshingly fruity and harmonious, making IL DUCALE the perfect wine for accompanying tasty Italian dishes. Medium-bodied, with mellow tannins and a nice balance between fruit and acidity, the taste of IL DUCALE is longlingering and characterised by hints of blue berries, raspberries, and cocoa. A modern Tuscan wine born from Ruffino's century old winemaking tradition.
